The Senate is expected to confirm Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson on Thursday, securing her place as the first Black woman on the high court and giving President Biden a bipartisan endorsement for his historic pick.

Jackson is a 51-year-old federal appeals court judge. She would be the third Black justice, after Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas, and the sixth woman.

Three Republican senators have said they will support Jackson, who would replace justice Stephen Breyer when he retires this summer.

Minnesota prosecutors declined to file charges against a Minneapolis police SWAT team officer who fatally shot Amir Locke in February. The officer was executing an early morning no-knock search warrant in a downtown apartment.
Locke, who was Black, was staying on a couch in the apartment when authorities entered it without knocking as part of an investigation into a homicide
Minnesota animal health officials say more than a million birds across the state have now been infected with bird flu.

Avian flu has now been found in 21 poultry flocks across 11 Minnesota counties. The state Board of Animal Health says most of the affected operations are commercial turkey flocks. The birds were euthanized to keep the virus from spreading.
