The University of St. Thomas lost power Wednesday morning due to an Xcel Energy outage.

More than 600 Xcel Energy customers were affected by this outage, all in St. Paul and the surrounding area.

All of St. Thomas’ St. Paul campus was affected, and the Wi-Fi connection was interrupted. Power was restored to campus by noon.

In Parkland, Florida, the community is remembering the loss of 14 students and three staff members a year ago today in a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Among other events of remembrance, there will be an interfaith service held at a Parkland park near the high school.

The Environmental Protection Agency announced Thursday it will move forward with a process that could lead to creating a safety threshold for a group of highly toxic chemicals in drinking water.

The EPA has faced criticism from lawmakers in both major political parties as an increasing number of states have found substances known collectively as PFAs in their public water systems and private wells.

PFAs have been associated with cancer and thyroid disease among other illnesses.
