“Oppenheimer,” the three-hour biopic about the invention of the atomic bomb, was crowned Best Picture Sunday night at an Oscars shadowed by war. This was the first time in more than a decade that the Academy gave its top prize to a big budget studio film. Cillian Murphy claimed his first Oscar for Best Actor for his role as J. Robert Oppenheimer.

This year’s most nail biting category was Best Actress: Emma Stone was awarded for her performance in “Poor Things.” Stone won over Lily Gladstone of “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Gladstone would have become the first Native American to win an Academy Award. Amid the talk of war there was a jolt of silliness when Ryan Gosling took the stage in a sparkly pink suit to sing “I’m Just Ken” from “Barbie”, creating a Ken-demonium.

President Biden told the prime minister of Israel to pause military operations and not send troops into the Gaza town of Rafah without a credible plan to protect civilians.

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, has apologized for editing a family photo that fueled rumors about her health. This PR disaster proves that the royal family’s mantra “never complain, never explain” is impossible in an era saturated by social media.
