Miami Beach officials are warning that the unruly spring break crowd that is gathering by the thousands and refusing to wear masks has become a serious threat to public safety.

The bulk of the unruly crowd is made up of adults rather than students, who are looking to let loose in one of the few states that are fully open during the pandemic.

Law enforcement officers from at least four other agencies, along with SWAT teams, were called in to control the fighting in the streets, and destruction of restaurant property.

Over 1,000 people were arrested and an 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew was enacted on Sunday. It was extended for another week along South Beach, with the possibility of it extending well into April.

At least two more jurors are needed in the trial of Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer charged in George Floyd’s death.

As jury selection enters its third week today, 13 jurors have been seated with two more expected ahead of opening statements on March 29.

Out of the 15 total jurors, 12 will deliberate with the remaining three serving as alternates who will step in only if some jurors are unable to serve.
