The St. Thomas Intercultural Center opened Wednesday with hope for students to engage in informed conversations about diversity. Many students have asked for a center like this for years.

The student organization Students of Color: Claim our Seats was founded to protest the lack of funding given to multicultural clubs. The group drafted the idea of a multicultural center in December 2017.

The demand for a cultural center was sparked after the sit-in student protest at St. Thomas in reaction to a racial incident last fall semester.

Embattled R&B star R. Kelly angrily blamed his ex-wife for “destroying” his name and claimed other people stole from his bank accounts during new portions of an interview that aired Thursday, a day after he was sent to jail for not paying child support.

Kelly, who is also facing felony charges that allege he sexually abused three girls and a woman in Chicago years ago. The 52-year old singer was jailed Wednesday after he said he couldn’t afford to pay $161,000 in back child support.

Senator Martha McSally revealed Wednesday that she was raped by a superior officer while serving in the Air Force.

McSally, the country’s first female fighter pilot to fly in combat, spoke of her alleged sexual assault during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on March 6th.

In an interview with “CBS This Morning,” broadcast on Thursday, McSally said she considered the prevalence of sexual assault and abuse in the military to be a national security threat.

At the Feb. 21 Undergraduate Student Government general council meeting, five clubs were funded, one new club was approved and new business was discussed .
