About 110,000 people have fled the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, following heavy fighting between Israeli troops and Palestinian militants, leaving food and fuel supplies inaccessible.

All southern Gaza crossings have been closed, preventing medical evacuations and the movement of humanitarian staff. 

About 1.3 million Palestinians had sought refuge in Rafah.

Police dismantled a pro-Palestinian tent encampment this morning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and cleared protesters at the University of Pennsylvania’s Philadelphia campus. 

In Cambridge, Massachusetts, video showed police roaming through the MIT encampment at about 4 a.m.. 10 students were arrested after being given 15 minutes by police and not leaving the premises, the university’s president said.

A Florida sheriff’s body cam footage was released Thursday, showing a deputy outside an apartment and firing immediately when it was opened by a black man carrying a downward-pointed handgun. the family denounced the killing as unjustifiable. 

The initial sheriff’s office news release said the deputy reacted in self-defense after he encountered a 23-year-old man with a gun. the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
