The University of St. Thomas will break ground Thursday for the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas renovation and the construction of the Iversen Center for Faith.

The new center will wrap around the chapel with below-grade spaces. It will open in the fall of 2020. the Iversen family donated much of the money for the project.

The Department of Natural Resources said Wednesday it will appeal a court decision that rejected its authority to change the name of Lake Calhoun to Bde Maka Ska.

The lake was named for U.S. Vice President John C. Calhoun, a southerner who backed slavery and promoted American Indian removal in the 1820s. The DNR changed the name last year, but on Monday, the Court of Appeals concluded that the decision to rename the lake should rest with the legislature.

The Minnesota House of Representatives voted this week to change the name to Bde Maka Ska, but the proposal has not been taken up in the Minnesota Senate.

At the Billboard Music Awards, Drake won 12 times Wednesday in Las Vegas, making his career total 27 awards and beating Taylor Swift’s record for the most wins.

After winning ‘Top Artist,’ Drake gave a heartfelt speech thanking his mom for her constant support in his life.
