The House has opened a second day of Trump impeachment hearings with Marie Yovanovitch, the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine who was suddenly recalled back to the U.S. by President Donald Trump.

Yovanovitch is expected to testify about her ouster, which another diplomat has called a “smear” campaign against her by Trump allies.

The live public hearings by the House Intelligence Committee are being held to determine whether Trump should be removed from office over his actions toward Ukraine.

A student pulled a gun from his backpack and opened fire at a Southern California high school, killing two students and wounding three others before shooting himself in the head on his 16th birthday, authorities said.

The attacker was hospitalized in critical condition, officials said, and investigators offered no immediate motive for Thursday’s shooting.

The gunfire began around 7:30 a.m. at Saugus High School in the Los Angeles suburb of Santa Clarita. Authorities estimated that the suspect took just 16 seconds to pull out the weapon, shoot five classmates and turn the gun on himself.

A St. Paul man wanted for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman after breaking into her St. Louis Park home has been arrested following a police chase that ended in Wisconsin.

Law enforcement officers arrested 51-year-old Jeffrey Groves on Wednesday after he led them on a chase that began in Newport and ended about 18 miles away in Hudson, Wisconsin, when he crashed his vehicle.
