News in :90 – Oct. 20, 2023

Hurricane Norma weakened slightly but remains a major storm as it is predicted to hit the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. Norma is sustaining 115 miles per hour winds and is heading toward Cabo San Lucas. 

This area is a large tourist location and remains three-quarters full with no major major moves of tourists to leave. The government posted 500 marines to help with preparations for the storm.

The White House detailed its $105 billion funding request for Israel and Ukraine today, aiming to help both countries in the midst of war. 

President Biden hopes congress will move quickly with the legislation and he made the case for strengthening the United States’ support for their allies. 

Minnesota’s budget surplus has grown to a projected $2.4 billion, fueling debate over spending and taxes for 2024. The new growth is only a small fraction of the current $72 billion, but lawmakers will now return in February with more funds to spend on government programs than originally expected.
