A Division I offer from the nine-member Summit League has been extended to St. Thomas, according to President Julie Sullivan. The Summit League consists of Denver, North Dakota, North Dakota State, Nebraska Omaha, Oral Roberts, Purdue Fort Wayne, South Dakota, South Dakota State and Western Illinois.
“Joining the Summit League would be a unique and exciting opportunity for St. Thomas, allowing us to significantly expand our impact and reach,” Sullivan said.
The move to the summit league will require an NCAA waiver from its current rules, which state that Division III schools can only reclassify to Division II.
In Kansas, Javier Alatorre, 23, and Hugo Villanueva-Morales, 29, were each charged with four counts of first-degree murder after having an argument inside Tequila KC bar in Kansas City. There were roughly 40 people inside the bar in which 4 died and 5 were injured.
Alatorre was arrested with the help of the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and police in Kansas City, Missouri. Sunday afternoon while the other remained at large, police said. Bail for each was set at $1 million.
On Sunday, the U.S. Embassy’s official Twitter account “liked” a tweet that stated the people of Turkey should prepare for a political era without the leader of Turkey’s national party who is reportedly ill. After Turkey realized this, they summoned a top American diplomat. The U.S. Embassy said its Twitter account has liked an “unrelated post in error” and apologized. The Foreign Ministry said the U.S. charge d’affaires Jeffrey Hovenier was summoned despite this.
The public agrees that the tweet suggests that Turkey’s leader Devlet Bahceli could soon die. A journalist that Turkey accuses of having links to a network led by a cleric who is blamed for a 2016 failed coup attempt, posted the tweet. Turkish media reports say the journalist, Ergun Babahan, is wanted in Turkey.
The embassy issued a second apology after Hovenier was called to the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
“We do not associate ourselves with Ergun Babahan nor do we endorse or agree with the content of his tweet,” the embassy’s second apology read. “We reiterate our regret for this error.”
