Today the Pacific Gas and Electric company announced that it would stage the largest preventive blackout in state history by shutting off power for 800 thousand customers in 34 northern, central and coastal California counties.

This is in response to the strongest and most widespread winds the region has seen in two years.

The utility company says that shutting off power reduces the chance of fierce winds knocking down and toppling trees into power lines during a siege of hot, dry, gusty weather.

Yesterday, the White House declared it will halt any and all cooperation with what it called the “illegitimate” impeachment probe by House Democrats.

The White House objects that the house has not voted to begin an impeachment investigation on Trump. It also claims that Trump’s due process rights are being violated.

Yesterday, a seemingly divided Supreme Court struggled over whether a landmark civil rights law protects LGBT people from discrimination in employment.

With the court’s four liberal justices likely to side with workers who were fired because of their sexual orientation or transgender status, the question is whether one of the court’s conservative judges might join them.
