Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was convicted of murder in the death of George Floyd, pleaded not guilty Thursday in federal court to allegedly violating the civil rights of a teenager in a separate case.

The indictment alleges in 2017 Chauvin deprived a 14-year-old, who is Black, of his right to be free of unreasonable force when the officer held his knee on the teen’s neck, similar to the restraint used on Floyd. The indictment also alleges Chauvin held him by his throat and hit him in the head with a flashlight, all while the teen was not resisting.
