Public Safety Briefs: Oct. 8 – Oct. 15

On October 8 at 3:48 p.m. Public Safety assisted the North Dakota Highway Patrol in the Morrison Hall Public Safety office. A pre-employment background investigation was conducted on a former St. Thomas employee.

On October 8 at 6:09 p.m. Public Safety and St. Paul Fire Department medics responded to a medical on the South Athletic Field. A St. Thomas student injured an ankle playing softball.

On October 8 at 9:49 p.m. Public Safety responded to theft in the lower quad. A bicycle owned by a St. Thomas student locked to a bike rack between Murray-Herrick Campus Center and O’Shaughnessy Educational Center was stolen.

On October 8 at 10:13 p.m. Public Safety documented suspicious activity in LOT 3. A motor vehicle operated by a St. Thomas student drove through the entrance gate arm.

On October 9 at 3:15 p.m. Public Safety responded to suspicious activity in Dowling Residence Hall. A St. Thomas student interpreted a word written on a door handle to a room in the building to be threatening.

On October 9 at 4:59 p.m. Public Safety and the St. Paul Police and Fire Departments responded to a traffic accident on Cretin Avenue. A vehicle operated by a St. Thomas student traveling southbound turned east at the intersection with Summit Avenue, colliding with a vehicle operated by a St. Thomas student traveling northbound, causing the vehicle to spin into a St. Thomas student pedestrian in the area causing injuries requiring advanced medical care.

On October 9 at 6:30 p.m. Public Safety documented an unsecured area in O’Shaughnessy Educational Center. A St. Thomas student group was found to have misused space and improperly gained access to a restricted area in the building.

On October 10 at 12:54 p.m. Public Safety documented suspicious activity in O’Shaughnessy Educational Center. A St. Thomas student reported inappropriate comments in an online KUST chat room.

On October 10 at 5:02 p.m. Public Safety assisted Residence Life with a suspicious odor in Flynn Residence Hall. The origin of the odor of marijuana on a floor in the building was undetermined.

On October at 10:12 p.m. Public Safety assisted Residence Life with liquor law violations in Morrison Hall. An underage St. Thomas student unlawfully possessed and consumed alcoholic beverages and three underage St. Thomas students unlawfully consumed alcoholic beverages.

On October 11 at 12:13 a.m. Public Safety documented property damage in Morrison Hall. A St. Thomas student reported glass on an elevator lobby door shattered when it was opened.

On October 11 at 12:17 a.m. Public Safety assisted Residence Life with suspicious activity in Brady Residence Hall. An underage St. Thomas student unlawfully possessed and consumed alcoholic beverages, and two underage St. Thomas students unlawfully consumed alcoholic beverages.

On October 11 at 12:52 p.m. Public Safety documented property damage in 2171 Grand Avenue. A coin-operated laundry machine was intentionally damaged with the apparent attempt to steal money from inside a device rendered inoperable years ago.

On October 11 at 2:08 p.m. Public Safety documented threats at Anderson Student Center. A campus guest threatened to drive a motor vehicle through the garage door after being denied entry to the building.

On October 11 2:48 p.m. Public Safety responded to a theft in the lower quad. A bicycle owned by a St. Thomas student locked to a bike rack between Murray-Herrick Campus Center and O’Shaughnessy Educational Center was stolen.

On October 11 at 7:12 p.m. Public Safety responded to a welfare check in Murray-Herrick Campus Center. A St. Thomas student was found in distress.

On October 11 at 7:32 p.m. Public Safety documented a drug law violation on the 100 block of Mississippi River Boulevard South. The St. Paul Police Department reported unlawful possession of marijuana.

On October 11 at 7:36 p.m. Public Safety documented domestic violence on the 1800 block of Marshall Avenue. The St. Paul Police Department reported an assault in the area.

On October 11 at 10:18 p.m. Public Safety assisted Residence Life with a suspicious odor in Flynn Residence Hall. An underage St. Thomas student unlawfully used and possessed marijuana and drug paraphernalia and unlawfully consumed alcoholic beverages, three underage St. Thomas students unlawfully consumed alcoholic beverages, and one underage St. Thomas student unlawfully possessed alcoholic beverages.

On October 11 at 11:26 p.m. Public Safety and Residence Life documented a drug law violation in Morrison Hall. A cursory search of a room occupied by a St. Thomas student due to a continuation of a previous report found fictitious driver’s licenses and additional drug paraphernalia.

On October 12 at 5:12 a.m. Public Safety documented property damage in Ireland Residence Hall. A window in a stairwell fell and shattered due to strong winds in the area.

On October 12 at 2:12 a.m. Public Safety responded to a disturbance on the 1800 block of Dayton Avenue. An anonymous caller reported a loud party at a house in the area.

On October 13 at 1:04 a.m. Public Safety assisted Residence Life with a suspicious odor in Morrison Hall. The odor was located and determined not to be suspicious.

On October 13 at 2:22 a.m. Public Safety assisted Residence Life with a liquor law violation in Brady Residence Hall. An underage intoxicated St. Thomas student unlawfully consumed alcoholic beverages and possessed a fictitious driver’s license, an underage intoxicated St. Thomas student unlawfully consumed alcoholic beverages, and an underage St. Thomas student admitted consuming a small amount of alcoholic beverages yet did not provide a positive breath-alcohol test.

On October 13 7:52 p.m. Public Safety and the St. Paul Police Department responded to a traffic collision in LOT Y. An unoccupied vehicle owned by a St. Thomas student was struck and damaged by a person who failed to stop and provide information as required by law.

On October 14 at 1:57 p.m. Public Safety responded to suspicious activity on 10th Street. Two males were reportedly fighting on the public sidewalk in front of Minneapolis FAIR School.

On October 14 at 2:03 p.m. Public Safety documented suspicious activity on campus. An unidentified individual was observed driving a vehicle with broken windows through parking lots in the area.

On October 14 at 5:58 p.m. Public Safety documented a vehicle accident in Anderson Parking Facility. A St. Thomas student struck a parked vehicle in the ramp.

On October 15 at 7:07 a.m. Public Safety assisted Residence Life with suspicious activity in Flynn Residence Hall. Two St. Thomas students moved and turned over furniture in the lobby.

On October 15 at 10:52 a.m. Public Safety documented an anonymous complaint on campus. An unidentified individual reported a St. Thomas social media post used politically biased language.

On October 15 at 11:00 a.m. Public Safety responded to suspicious activity in Minneapolis Opus Hall. A person not affiliated with St. Thomas seen by a service elevator in the building was found and trespassed from University property and later determined to have stolen personal property from a St. Thomas student.

On October 15 at 12:14 p.m. Public Safety documented a complaint in John Roach Center for the Liberal Arts. A St. Thomas student reported unfair classroom treatment by a faculty member.

On October 15 at 1:10 p.m. Public Safety documented a welfare check on campus. A St. Thomas student stopped all communication with professors and has not attended class in several months.

On October 15 at 3:10 p.m. Public Safety documented suspicious activity in O’Shaughnessy Educational Center. A St. Thomas student reported inappropriate comments observed in an online KUST chat room.

On October 15 at 3:20 p.m. Public Safety documented property damage in the lower quad. A University vehicle damaged bicycles owned by a St . Thomas student and locked to a bike rack between O’Shaughnessy Educational Center and the O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center.

On October 15 at 7:04 p.m. Public Safety documented theft on the 1900 block of Marshall Avenue. The St. Paul Police Department reported personal property valued under $500 stolen from an automobile parked in the area.

On October 15 at 7:08 p.m. Public Safety documented theft on the 2000 block of Goodrich Avenue. The St. Paul Police Department reported personal property over $1,000 stolen from a vehicle in the area.

On October 15 at 7:11 p.m. Public Safety documented theft on the 1800 block of St. Clair Avenue. The St. Paul Police Department reported personal property under $500 was stolen from a vehicle in the area.

  1. What is Pub Safe doing about all of the bike thefts at the racks by OEC and MHC. It seems like at least one report of a stolen bike from this rack location shows up on the Pub Safe briefing.

    Supposedly they have a bike with a GPS on it but that is obviously not working.
