Sophomore forward Ahjany Lee announced he was entering the transfer portal Friday, March 22 on X, formerly known as Twitter, leaving St. Thomas after two seasons.

Lee averaged four points and 2.9 rebounds per game on an average of 13 minutes for the Tommies. He led the team with 18 blocks across the entire season. Lee played a total of only 11 minutes through the final four games, including the two in the Summit League tournament.

“First I would like to thank the University of St. Thomas as a whole for being my primary home for the last two years,” Lee wrote on X. “I would also like to thank the people I have met here.”

Lee led the Tommies with 23 blocks as a first-year in 2022-23 alongside an average of 5.3 points and 4.6 rebounds. Lee was a member of coach Johnny Tauer’s first Division-I recruiting class alongside sophomore guard Kendall Blue, redshirt first-year Carter Bjerke and sophomore guard Andrew Rohde who transferred to Virginia after his first season.

The 6-foot-9-inch Byron, Minnesota native was a three-star recruit out of Totino-Grace High School where he won a state championship in 2022. Lee chose St. Thomas over offers from schools like Kansas, Minnesota, and Florida, according to recruiting website 247sports. Lee also received an offer from Kansas State, where his sister Ayoka has become one of the best players in program history.

Lee wrote that the decision to transfer came “after long self contemplation and communication” with his family.

Joining Lee in the transfer portal are seniors Courtney Brown Jr., Bennett Kwiecinski and Dom Martinelli, according to basketball recruiting site Verbal Commits. None of them started a game last season.
