The University of St. Thomas closed down campus Wednesday afternoon during St. Paul’s third snow emergency in the past two weeks.

Some professors made their own decision to cancel class Wednesday morning, but the St. Thomas administration didn’t send any closure announcements until after 1 p.m.

According to the Public Safety Alert, all classes starting after 3 p.m. and all events scheduled today are canceled.

According to St. Paul’s city website, snow emergencies are declared after three or more inches of snow have fallen in one single snowfall, or an accumulation of three or more inches after several snowfalls.

Fox 9 reported that the Minnesota State Patrol responded to 74 crashes and 218 vehicle spinouts statewide Wednesday morning.

The Minneapolis and St. Paul school districts are among about 400 schools in Minnesota that cancelled or delayed Wednesday classes as the weather service predicted up to 10 inches of snow in the Twin Cities.

KARE 11 has compiled a full listing of closed or delayed schools on its website.
