The St. Thomas football team added two new players on National Signing Day Wednesday and one in late December for its second signing period in addition to the 26 players who signed Dec. 16.

This is coach Glenn Caruso’s second batch of signees heading into the team’s first season competing against Division I competition, with one more National Signing Day on May 1.

“What is really important to us is that our new class is not going to change in culture or attitude,” Caruso said. “The player might be taller and faster, but they hold the same core principles.”

When recruiting for DI, Caruso said he looks for the same type of players he has looked for in Division III.

St. Thomas’ move to DI has attracted local recruits, which caused St. Thomas to commit more Minnesota high school football players than any other 2021 DI class in the country, Caruso said.

The new football signees include Shea Albrecht, David Ayeni and Nick Flaskamp; all of which are Minnesota natives adding to the Minnesota heavy roster.

List of St. Thomas football signees:

Shea Albrecht, OL, 6-4, 295, Orono, Minn./Orono (Feb. 3 signee)
David Ayeni, LB, 6-2, 216, Andover, Minn./Anoka (Feb. 3 signee)
Nick Flaskamp, LB, 5-11, 205, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest (December 2020 signee)
