The St. Thomas men’s golf team are competing at the NCAA Division III Championship May 14-17 at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

The Tommies won three major tournaments last fall: the Augsburg invite, the Tommie invite and the MIAC championships. By winning these tournaments, St. Thomas earned an automatic entry into the national championship.

“We are excited to go and represent the University of St. Thomas,” coach Scott Proshek said. “We’ve got a number of seniors that are going to represent us. They have team goals of finishing in the tournament.”

St. Thomas will compete against 40 other schools across the nation and will be represented by sophomores Miles McCarthy and Pedar Larson, junior Emmet Herb and seniors Matt Mellin and Jack Ritchay.

For those not competing in the tournament, coach Proshek said it should serve as motivation for them.

“A number of the (players) are already preparing next fall,” Proshek said. “Many of the guys are not only excited about this year’s team but next year’s team as well.”

The best finish for the Tommies at the tournament came during the 2015-2016 season when they tied for fifth place.
