The St. Thomas men’s and women’s hockey games against Gustavus this weekend have been postponed “due to COVID-19 protocols,” St. Thomas Athletics said in a statement Friday.

This is the third postponement for women’s hockey, and the first for men’s hockey. The women were scheduled to play College of St. Benedict on Jan. 29 before it was postponed, and a game scheduled on Jan. 30 against Hamline was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols.

”The St. Thomas men are scheduled to play two games against Bethel next week: a non-conference game Wednesday Feb. 10 at home in Mendota Heights (7:30 p.m.); and Saturday Feb. 13 in a MIAC clash in Blaine (7 p.m.),” the statement said.

St. Thomas men’s hockey won their last contest against St. Scholastica on Jan. 30, defeating the Saints 5-1.

St. Thomas women’s hockey has yet to play a game this season. They finished 12-10-4 (11-6-1) last season, finishing 4th in the MIAC standings and qualifying for playoffs.

Gustavus’ campus is currently in a “Lay Low” phase, which is similar to the “quiet period” that St. Thomas is currently adhering to for the first two weeks of the semester.

Both St. Thomas and Gustavus athletic departments were unavailable for comment.
