St. Thomas student founds jewelry company: “Penny’s Piercings”

With the Mall of America only miles away, St. Thomas students need not look further than Murray Hall to find affordable earrings. That’s because first-year student Penny Groethe, creator of Penny’s Piercings, can whip up a pair in minutes. She’s already sold around 85 pieces since she started in high school.

Even with a minor in Entrepreneurship, Groethe isn’t in it for the money; instead, she wants to share her love for nature-inspired art. Her bee earrings are all the buzz and can be found on her Instagram, @penpenthewizard. In the future, Groethe hopes to donate some of the money to charity.
