St. Thomas women’s hockey was swept during the WCHA playoffs after taking a 4-1 loss Friday and a 5-1 loss Saturday to No. 1 University of Minnesota at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis. The sweep put an end to the Tommies inaugural Division I season.

The Tommies, who were outscored 9-1 by the Gophers (28-7-1, 21-6-1 WCHA), finished the year 5-26-1 overall and 2-23-1 in the WCHA.

Junior forward Jenna Hartung scored the Tommies’ lone goal of the series, netting one in the second period of Saturday’s game.

First-year goalie Saskia Maurer and seniors Eryn Cooley and Alexa Dobchuk all took turns in net throughout the series. Dobchuk played all 60 minutes of the game Friday, stopping 49 shots while Maurer saved 52 and Cooley saved three-of-three on Saturday.

The Tommies will return to the ice in the fall with a majority of their roster, as only four players are set to graduate in the spring.
