St. Thomas, World Press Institute to present forum on journalism in an ‘anti-media’ world

International and local journalists will tackle the “anti-media” world and ethics at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the St. Thomas O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium.

The World Press Institute and the University of St. Thomas are presenting a public forum on journalism in an “Anti-media World” Tuesday evening.

The forum, Reporting in an “Anti-media” World, will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the O’Shaughnessy Educational Center Auditorium. It will bring together local and international journalists to answer questions about restrictions and barriers to press freedom and the role of ethics in the modern world, according to the event’s press release.

“Press freedom and journalistic ethics are such crucial topics in today’s media landscape,” Professor Mark Neuzil, panel moderator and chair of the Department of Emerging Media said. “We hope both the journalists and the members of the community can learn from the discussion.”

Local panelists include Star Tribune reporter Jennifer Bjorhus and investigative reporter A.J. Lagoe from KARE-TV. Samara Freemark, senior producer of the “In the Dark” podcast, will also participate.

International guests include Handi Baala, reporter for HuffPost Algeria; Saara Koho, a reporter and columnist for the Helsinki-based magazine Talouselama; Sorana Stanescu, managing editor for Romanian Decat o Revista; and Kate Bartlett, a correspondent for Southern and East Africa for the Johannesburg-based Deutsche Presse Agentur.

Audience members are encouraged to interact with the panelists and ask questions. The event is free and open to the public.
