Temps will be chilly for Twins home opener

MINNEAPOLIS — Things will be chilly when Minnesota and Detroit meet for the Twins’ home opener.

Temperatures aren’t expected to get warmer than 32 degrees Monday in Minneapolis, where the only heat in Target Field might be Justin Verlander’s 100 mph fastballs.

Former Twins fan favorite Torii Hunter will be returning as a Tiger. He adds punch to an already potent offense that includes Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez.

Expectations aren’t nearly as high for Minnesota, which has lost more than 90 games in each of the past two seasons. The team has been searching for an ace for years.

They’ll send Vance Worley to the mound to face Verlander, the 2011 AL MVP and AL Cy Young Award winner. Worley was 0-1 with a 5.73 ERA this spring.
