2012 Tommie Award nominee: David Hackworthy

Hackworthy is from Madison, Wis. His activities at St. Thomas include the Sigma Chi Fraternity, Office of Admissions intern, Undergraduate Student Government neighborhood senator, Ireland Hall resident adviser, Foreign Affairs Club, Tommie Ski and Snowboard Club and Tommie Ambassadors.

Hackworthy’s achievements include Dean’s List member, Aquinas Honors scholar, Psi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honors Club member, and research assistant for Dr. Hoffman in the political science department.

“I also helped write a $20,000 grant and negotiate for the solar panels that are currently on top of Brady Hall,” Hackworthy said.

Hackworthy said an interesting fact about himself is that he has studied abroad on “all seven of the world’s continents.”

Hackworthy suggested every student should “walk through campus at night while it’s snowing … and study abroad” before graduating. After graduation, Hackworthy hopes to “attend law school at either St. Thomas, Univeristy of Wisconsin-Madison or Georgetown and study constitutional law.”
