2012 Tommie Award nominee: Erika Jarnes

Erika Jarnes, communication and journalism major, 3.74 GPA  111116_JARNES

Jarnes is from Bloomington, Minn. She is the co-president of PULSE and an executive board member of Gospel Choir and Gymnastics Club. She is also a member of the Ski and Snowboard Club, Rock Climbing Club, THIRST and UST Allies.

Jarnes’ achievements include being on the Dean’s List for five semesters. She also studied abroad in London and Guatemala, and she plans to study in Hawaii this January term.

Jarnes said one interesting fact about herself is that she’s “that girl with the Ninja Turtle backpack riding the moped around campus, running my ferret in the quad and starting flash mobs in the cafeteria.”

Before students graduate, Jarnes suggests they “take chances, make mistakes and get messy. Use college to discover who you are and don’t forget to study abroad.”

After graduation, Jarnes said she plans to “work at an elephant sanctuary in Thailand, move to Fiji for a year to work in public relations, then travel the world before applying for the Peace Corps. (Then) possibly going to grad school and ultimately becoming a writer or actress for Saturday Night Live.”
