2012 Tommie Award nominee: Jacob Wakem

Jacob Wakem, communications and journalism major, business administration and justice and peace minors, 3.62 GPA   111117_wakem

Wakem is from St. Paul, Minn. He is the operations manager for Ireland Hall and a VISION leader. He has also been a resident advisor, STAR intern, Tommie Ambassador, tour guide, Talking Circles participant, Peer Advisor, Admissions visit coordinator and an Ireland Hall council member.

Wakem’s academic achievements include being on the Dean’s List each semester.

Wakem said one interesting fact about himself is his adoration of Kelly Clarkson.

“I absolutely adore Kelly Clarkson and last October I was able to not only meet her, but be physically picked up by her,” he said. “Yes, that happened, and I will never forget it because trust me ‘my life would suck without her.’”

Before students graduate, Wakem suggests they find a place to sit and reflect.

“I place a high importance on positivity and gratitude within my life, so I would say before graduation, find a ‘sit spot,’ a spot of significance to you wherever it may be, on or off campus, in a building of meaning or by the river, and ask yourself ‘What am I grateful for?” What makes me truly happy?’” Wakem said. “As corny as it sounds, these simple questions have redefined how I want to live my life now and in the future.”

After graduation, Wakem plans on “attending graduate school seeking a degree in Student Affairs.”
