2012 Tommie Award nominee: John Baumgardner

John Baumgardner, financial management major, Catholic studies minor, 3.66 GPA  111116_JOHN

Baumgardner is from Greendale, Wis. His activities include four years in the Catholic Men’s Leadership Group, two years in the Catholic Studies Leadership Intern Program and two years on the football team. He is also involved in the Tutor-Mentor Program, and he entered the St. John Vianney College Seminary program this year.

Baumgardner’s academic achievements include studying abroad spring 2011 semester in Rome through the Catholic Studies program.

“It was the semester of a lifetime, and I was blessed with wonderful people and so many great experiences during my time there,” he said.

Baumgardner said an interesting fact about himself is more of a story:“I accidentally threw up all over a priest named Fr. Carola and two nuns on the bus ride back from Sienna during my semester abroad in Italy,” he said. “It was a really rough ride back to Rome, but looking back on it, it makes a great story. Definitely embarrassing, but how many people can say they’ve thrown up all over a priest?”

Before students graduate, Baumgardner suggested they “have a Mary sandwich at the Binz for lunch. It will change your life. Studying abroad and going to the Last Chance Mass wouldn’t hurt either.”

After graduation, Baumgardner said he plans to “enter the pre-theology program at St. Francis de Sales Seminary in Milwaukee to continue studies towards the priesthood.”
