Tommie spin on viral ‘Harlem Shake’

About a hundred students gather in the Lower Quad Sunday to put a St. Thomas spin on a viral dance video called “Harlem Shake.”

Event organizer Peter Mayer got the word out to students through a Facebook group.

“There was about 600 people who said they were going to come on Facebook, which means actually 100 to 200 people actually showed up,” Mayer said. “I thought we did really well; I’d say we definitely met our goals.”

Students got creative with costumes, props and dance moves.

The original video has about 55,000 views, so some participants hope this version will also reach the masses.

“There’s a lot of them out there right now, but hopefully ours was crazy enough for people to want to watch it,” Mayer said.
