The St. Thomas women’s soccer team took their sixth straight win, beating the St. Catherine University Wildcats 1-0 in their final regular season home game Wednesday at South Field.

Junior forward Tessa Trettel scored the Tommies’ (13-2-2, 8-1-1 MIAC) only goal, leading the team with eight goals scored this season.

“It’s exciting but that doesn’t happen unless my teammates pass me the ball,” Trettel said, “So it’s nice.”

Trettel’s goal was assisted by junior midfielder Kate Heimer and first-year forward Callie Haertle.

“I saw both Tessa (Trettel) and Callie (Haertle) making runs up top, so just their movement kind of caught my eye,” Heimer said, “I tried to put it in their general direction, then they made some magic happen.”

The Tommies had 11 shots with seven on goal, while the Wildcats (11-6, 7-3 MIAC) had six shots with two on goal.

Coach Sheila McGill said that St. Kate’s was a strong opponent, and the team prepared for this opportunity.

“We knew we were going to have to work hard to fight for our goal,” McGill said. “They were good compact defensively and so we had to fight through them.”

The Tommies travel to St. Mary’s University in Winona for their final regular season game Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
