ST. PETER, Minn. — Despite running back Tucker Trettel’s absence from the game, the fourth-ranked St. Thomas football team leads Gustavus 26-3 at halftime Saturday afternoon.

Trettel has averaged 83.1 yards rushing per game, best in the MIAC.

Ball-hawking cornerback Michael Alada recovered a fumble late in the second quarter and picked off Gustie quarterback Christian Haffner twice for his eighth and ninth interceptions of the season. He ran the first pick back to the Gustavus 15-yard line.

After Alada’s first interception, quarterback Alex Fenske connected with wide open tight end Matt Christenson for Christenson’s first touchdown of the season. Gustavus answered by blocking Bryan Steinsapir’s extra-point kick.

St. Thomas failed on two extra-point kicks in the first half.

Josh Parks recorded his seventh touchdown of the season on 11-yard run to give the Tommies a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

Gustavus’ lone points came from a 51-yard field goal by kicker Brendan Boche.

The Tommies outgained the Gusties on offense 284-75 in the first half.
