Seven students were elected to the Undergraduate Student Government general council this week. The USG Elections for 2023 were held on Sept. 26 and Sept. 27 on TommieLink. The new members were sworn into their positions on Thursday, Sept. 28.

The newly elected general council members and their roles are:

First-Year Engagement Senator: Sara Schmitz

First-Year Policy Senator: Rose Hissom

Second-Year Engagement Senator: Alicia Erickson

Junior Policy Senator: Hailey Neumann

Commuter Senator: Noah Peterson

Underclassman Residential Senator: Ilham Mohamud

Neighborhood Senator: Bailey Reisewitz

USG met to discuss these elections and fashion club was approved after being presented to the general council last Thursday.

USG candidates

“We (had) a lot of passionate candidates,” Maggie Bau, USG vice president of academic affairs said, “There were people who specifically reached out and were emailing and had tons of questions and they seemed really invested. It was a really good turnout, which I was hoping for.”

USG is looking for students to fill five remaining general council positions, which will be voted on in special elections, according to an email with Maggie Bau.

These positions are transfer senator, greater-Minnesota senator, out-of-state senator, senior policy senator, and senior engagement senator.

The special election signatures and intent to run form (found on the USG TommieLink page) are due Monday, October 2nd.

Club approved: Fashion Club

Senior-year sisters, Paris O’Reilly and Paige O’Reilly, proposed a club that would help empower students to express their uniqueness through style.

The fashion club’s main mission will be based around creativity, individuality and uplifting community. Students will be able to share, explore and discuss different fashion styles and tips, according to Paris O’Reilly.

Fashion club will hold bi-weekly meetings on Thursdays during convo hour.

“We want students to expand their knowledge of passion and we also want to have meaningful discussions and foster a sense of belonging among our community,” Paris O’Reilly said.

Fashion club was approved by USG and is expected to start soon. Students can join the fashion club on TommieLink.
