What’s scarier, Halloween or Grace Hall?

Halloween isn’t the only spooky thing happening around St. Thomas. On South Campus, Grace Hall residents have experienced some mysterious scares.

Students have rumored Grace Hall to be haunted and some residents are sure it is; first-year Steph Lanty recently moved out of the building because of alleged paranormal activity.

“When I lived in Grace Hall, I experienced numerous weird things,” Lanty said.“I experienced drawers slamming shut, stuff randomly falling, et cetera.”

Lanty lived in a single room and said things would move around with no apparent reason, and there still isn’t a true explanation for why it happened.

“I had a wooden photo frame that was pretty heavy. This photo frame found its way, without wind or a fan, approximately 2-4 feet in front of the window. This happened 5 times,” Lanty said.

These incidents eventually got so bad that not only did Lanty move out, but Father Lawrence Blake, St. Thomas’ Chaplain and Director of Campus Ministry, blessed the room before Lanty left.

“My mom decided to bring a bible, a rosary, and holy water. Immediately after I put these things in my room, a knocking followed my feet. I’d be standing still and the knocking would follow,” Lanty said.

When asked if she thinks Grace Hall is haunted, Lanty replied, “Yes. Definitely.”

Lanty isn’t the only student who experienced strange happenings in Grace Hall. Another first-year, Olivia Dyson, shares her concerns.

“Everyone who lives here in Grace Hall agrees that it is haunted. Priests have come and blessed the rooms before,” Dyson said. “A lot of scary and unexplainable things happen here.”

So for some scares this Halloween, St. Thomas students may need to look no further than their very own Grace Hall.
