The MIAC Presidents’ Council announced Wednesday that it will allow both 2020 fall sports and 2021 spring sports to compete during the spring semester, with shortened seasons for fall sports only.

The decision clears St. Thomas fall and spring sports to compete in a final season against MIAC teams as it transitions to Division I in the fall of 2021.

According to the framework, soccer and volleyball will play a shortened conference schedule, while cross country and football will have the option to schedule up to four contests as each institution sees fit. Cross country and football competitions will be scheduled at each school’s discretion.

There will be no conference schedule for football this spring, and, as with winter sports, no conference champion will be crowned.

Baseball, softball and tennis will each play a regular-season schedule and hold a MIAC playoff tournament, according to the framework.

Football, soccer, volleyball and cross country may schedule contests at the discretion of each participating institution between March 5 and May 15. Each spring sport will begin at various dates this spring.

Golf, and outdoor track and field will have regular-season competitions at the discretion of each school, and will end the season with a championship event.

Both fall and spring sports athletes will be required to wear protective face coverings during all practices and competitions this spring.

No spectators will be allowed at on-campus indoor competitions.
