A gunman killed eight people and wounded several others before apparently taking his own life Thursday night at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis, police said.

FedEx said company workers were among the dead and police confirmed five people were hospitalized after the shooting.

It is unknown whether the shooter was an employee at the facility and he has not yet been named.

The United States distanced itself from the rest of the world Thursday, nearing 200 million vaccines administered.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly half of adults in the U.S. have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine and about 30% have been fully vaccinated.

Parts of Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia face difficulties as variants of the virus fuel an increase in new cases, and the worldwide death toll closes in on three million.

A theology textbook written by 23 members of the St. Thomas theology department won the 2021 Textbook Excellence Award.

This award is administered by the Textbook and Academic Authors Association.

Nominated textbooks are judged in four areas: pedagogy, the method and practice of teaching; content or scholarship; writing; and appearance and design.
