A Russian missile hit a crowded train station in eastern Ukraine Friday morning. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said thousands of people were at the train station when the missile struck. The station was previously being used as an evacuation point for civilians.

Zelenskyy said in a statement that “the inhuman Russians are not changing their methods. This is an evil without limits. If it is not punished, then it will never stop.”

Ukrainian authorities warned that they expect to find even worse evidence of war crimes in parts of the country previously held by Russian troops.

President Joe Biden will celebrate the confirmation hearing of judge Kentanji Brown Friday. Jackson is the first Black woman to reach the supreme court.

In nominating Jackson, Biden delivered on a campaign promise to select the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court. Jackson’s arrival on the bench won’t upend the current 6-3 balance in favor of conservatives, but Biden sees the pick as historic nonetheless.

The Minnesota senate’s Republican majority passed a $8.4 billion tax cut bill Thursday, even as leaders acknowledged that the final tax plan that emerges could look very different.

The plan includes permanent income tax cuts for everyone who pays state income taxes. Democratic leaders say the plan would disproportionately benefit the well-off, but six Democrats joined with Republicans on a 42-24 vote to approve the package.

The new Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences,William “Bill” Tolman, will be joining St. Thomas on July 1. Tolman’s hiring was announced Thursday and the Ohio native will replace Mark Stansbury-O’Donnell as Dean of the university’s largest college.
