About a million New York City public school students went back to school today in the nation’s largest experiment of in-person learning during the coronavirus pandemic.

The city will end remote work as well. Nearly all of the city’s 300,000 employees will be required to return in person to their workplaces. Most will either need to be vaccinated or undergo weekly COVID-19 testing to remain employed.

There will also be a vaccine mandate — with no test-out option — for teachers.

New York City officials say there will be no remote option despite the persistence of the highly transmissible delta variant of COVID-19.

Authorities said Sunday that a vast majority of the Greenwood Lake wildfire in northern Minnesota is contained, one month after lightning ignited the blaze in the Superior National Forest.

The U.S. Forest Service reported that the nearly 27,000-acre fire was 67% contained as of Sunday morning.

The fire destroyed 14 cabins and homes along with 57 outbuildings, but some residents who were evacuated have recently been allowed to return to homes and cabins after the fire lost intensity.

The leader of an Illinois anti-government militia group who authorities say masterminded the 2017 bombing of a Minnesota mosque faces sentencing today for crimes involved in the attack.

Emily Claire Hari, who was previously known as Michael Hari and recently said she is transgender, faces a mandatory minimum of 30 years in prison for the attack on Dar al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington.

No one was physically hurt in the attack, and defense attorneys are asking for the minimum while prosecutors are seeking a life sentence.
