Archbishop Harry Flynn’s funeral took place 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Cathedral.

Flynn died Sunday, Sept. 22 at age 86 after spending his last days fighting bone cancer. Flynn was archbishop of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis from September 1995 to May 2008 and served as chairman on both the St. Thomas Board of Trustees and the St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity.

St. Thomas honored him in 2009 by re-naming Selby Residence Hall to Flynn Hall.

A drainage problem is requiring Minnesota United FC to replace the grass at Allianz Field. United CEO Chris Wright said to the Pioneer Press that the club discovered a drainage problem underneath the grass where rain and sprinkler water would pool underneath the grass, which affects root growth.

The grass replacement comes before the 89th St. Thomas-St. John’s football game scheduled for Oct. 19 and a possible MLS Cup playoff game the following day. There will not be a rescheduling of the game, since United entered into a binding contract with the two schools… quote… well before we understood and knew… end quote… the new MLS Cup playoff format.

From September 23 to October 7, students can donate their guest passes to help St. Thomas students facing food insecurity. This is a new program that is designed for students to help fellow Tommies. Check TommieMedia.com for the full story.
