Senior Madie Kroehler fueled the St. Thomas volleyball team to a straight set win against Macalester (4-18 overall, 0-8 MIAC) with 26 digs Friday at Schoenecker Arena.

The Tommies (24-4 overall, 8-0 MIAC) took control early, jumping out to an 8-0 lead in the first set.

“We just wanted to control our side of the court, and we were able to do that,” coach Thanh Pham said.“When we work hard and keep the ball in the system, good things happen.”

Setter Grace Anetipa controlled the Tommie’s side of the court with 62 assists on 119 attempts.

“When our block sets up right, it’s so much easier to get a dig,” Kroehler said. “So it was really fun to play behind them today.”

The Tommies controlled the tempo throughout the match winning 25-11, 25-12, and 25-7.

“We still have three tough matches left and as long as we worry about what we have to do on our side we will be okay,” Pham said.

The Tommies play back-to-back days traveling to Hamline University Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
