Softball’s Ellestad named Summit League player of the week

First-year shortstop Brooke Ellestad was named TicketSmarter Summit League Softball Player of the Week on March 28.

Ellestad is the first softball player to receive the honor in St. Thomas’ inaugural Division I season.

During the team’s three-game weekend series against Western Illinois, Ellestad had seven hits while scoring three runs, driving in five and stealing a base. Ellestad had two or more hits in all three games and currently carries an eight-game hitting streak.

Ellestad currently leads the Tommies in most offensive categories, topping batting average (.427), on-base percentage (.447), slugging (.663), runs (21), hits (38), RBIs (21), triples (2), stolen bases (5), total bases (59) and home runs (5).

In the Summit League, Ellestad is in the top three for average, slugging, OBP, on-base plus slugging and hits.
