Special teams shine, Tommies down Bethel 58-13

Defensive back Chris Fondakowski led a special teams unit that scored 20 points Saturday at O’Shaughnessy Stadium as St. Thomas defeated the Bethel Royals 58-13.

Fondakowski scored a touchdown after blocking and recovering a punt in the second quarter. He also recovered a blocked extra point attempt that led to a two-point score for the Tommies. Kicker Bryan Steinsapir made his only field goal attempt of the day, a 44-yarder, and converted all six of his point-after kicks.

The Tommie defense held the Royals to minus-7 yards rushing and 129 passing yards. The unit also recorded two sacks and forced two fumbles while allowing only one offensive touchdown.

Tommie quarterback Jacques Perra went 13 of 26 for 286 yards and three first-half touchdowns.

The Tommies will take on Gustavus Adolphus next weekend at home.
