Tommies power past Auggies 57-25

Quarterback Jacques Perra threw for 247 yards and one touchdown, and he ran for two more scores in three quarters of play Saturday at Edor Nelson Field in Minneapolis as St. Thomas defeated Augsburg 57-25.

The Tommies (3-0 MIAC, 4-1 overall) had three runners contribute two touchdowns each on the ground. Running back Tucker Trettel rushed for 70 yards on 11 carries, and running back Jordan Roberts added 68 yards on 15 carries. Perra’s 55 yards pushed the team’s rushing total more than 200 yards.

Auggie quarterback Quinn Frisell, who had averaged over 365 yards a game passing coming into the game, threw for 223 yards and three touchdowns. He was picked off once before exiting the game in the fourth quarter.

Augsburg (1-2 MIAC, 3-2 overall) was shut down in the running game, recording minus-27 yards on 23 attempts. The Tommie defense recorded two sacks and had one interception.

With the win, St. Thomas moved to sole possession of first place in the MIAC after Gustavus fell to Concordia 27-17 in Moorhead. The Tommies will host the Cobbers on Oct. 7 for their homecoming game. It will be the first game the Tommies have played at O’Shaughnessy Stadium since Week 1 against Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
