USG discusses administrative breakfast agenda, gives committee and finance updates at March 3 meeting

St. Thomas’ Undergraduate Student Government covered a brief list of items at their March 3 general council meeting at Scooter’s: the upcoming administrative breakfast and committee and finance updates.

Administrative breakfast

USG President Adam Revoir discussed the agenda for the administrative breakfast – a time for USG’s executive board and St. Thomas administration to exchange updates and explore future collaborations – taking place on March 4.

“The administrative breakfast is an opportunity for the executive board to really just interact with administrators in a more casual manner and tone,” Revoir said.

He explained that USG executives planned to inform administration of the positive feedback they have received from members and students regarding the new furniture in the Anderson Student Center.

Revoir expressed that the board had intentions to inquire about the university’s leadership changes, not only the search for a new president but also for deans in several of St. Thomas’ departments.

Finally, Revoir discussed having a conversation with administration about the university’s COVID-19 plan moving forward. After the recent relaxation of mask policies around campus, USG hoped to gain clarity about what will come next.

Committee updates

Vice President of Academic Affairs Rosie Salem described open committee positions that USG members will have the opportunity to take on in the coming weeks. The committees range from public safety to technology advisory. Revoir encouraged members to get involved with these committees.

“It’s really important to have and continue to have USG members sit on these university committees, just as an opportunity for students to really provide insight and voices on key concerns or issues,” Revoir said.

The majority of the committee updates centered around putting things in motion that the groups intend to accomplish before May.

Notable plans include conversations with dining services about offering more vegan and vegetarian options and the possibility of public safety adding more dogs to its team.

Finance requests

Vice President of Financial Affairs Angelica Franaschouk reviewed USG’s latest transactions and facilitated a vote to approve funding for an upcoming event involving three campus clubs.

USG approved internal club funding in the amount of $6,292.50 in the two weeks since its last meeting. Harry Potter club received $1,800. Finance club received $1,852.50. Ski and snowboard club received $2,640.

$151,428.03 remains for club funds.

Franaschouk then presented a funding request from three clubs for an upcoming trip to the Viennese Ball in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Swing dance club, ballroom dance club and German club will be in attendance.

USG has the authority to fund, at maximum, 75% of club events’ total cost. The total cost requested by the three clubs was $5,750; the maximum USG was able to authorize, $4,312.50, was confirmed unanimously.

Swing dance club will receive $1,350, ballroom dance club will receive $1,087.50, and German club will receive $1,875.
