Doggone cold: Twin Cities cold front hits record low temps

This week began with frigid temperatures, frosty winds and frozen eyelashes for St. Thomas community members and their furry friends who ventured outside during a record breaking cold front that, at its Valentine’s Day peak, rose to a high of only minus three degrees before sinking to a bitter 18 below zero, according to the National Weather Service.

The cold streak broke Twin Cities records this past weekend and dropped below the previous Feb. 13 record low of zero degrees in 1909, according to weather service records.

Luckily, heavy winter attire may not be needed for long. Weather service forecasts show a sharp rebound in the upcoming days; by next Monday, temperatures are expected to rise to highs near 35 degrees.
