President Joe Biden is scheduled to meet with 10 Republican senators who have proposed $618 billion in coronavirus relief Monday.

This proposal is about a third of the $1.9 trillion Biden is seeking as congressional Democrats plan to move on without Republican support.

St. Thomas vice president for mission, the Rev. Larry Snyder, will retire on June 30, 2021 this year, university President Julie Sullivan announced in an email last month.

Snyder will be replaced by St. Thomas alumnus Rev. Christopher Collins, who most recently served as assistant to the vice president for mission and identity at St. Louis University in Missouri.

Under Snyder’s community engagement initiatives, the Center for the Common Good was established, and mission-driven engagement among faculty increased.

Myanmar’s military staged a coup Monday, detaining senior politicians including Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.

The takeover began as the country’s new parliamentary session was set to begin and follows days of concern that a coup was coming.

The development marks a sharp reversal of the progress Myanmar has made toward democracy following five decades of military rule.
